The Oklahoma City Museum of Art is a gorgeous and remodeled visual arts facility that is home to a collection of pieces that covers five centuries. The April 19, 1995 terror attack of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City was the nations worst terrorist disaster until the events of 9/11. After the bombing of the Murrah building, which killed 168 people, Mayor Ron Norick appointed a 350-member Task Force responsible for developing an appropriate memorial to honor those touched by the event. Over the course of a year, information was gathered from the government, families, survivors, and the general public and the result is a memorial that continues to touch the lives of thousands of visitors each year. The Memorial and Museum offers a complete history of the events leading up to the bombing, as well as a mission that involves remembrance, peace, spirituality and hope, recognition and learning so that OKC can continue to heal from this terrorist event.
